- In the series finale, Charles Gunn uses a pair of retractable
stakes, hidden in his sleaves, while fighting the senatorial
candidate's cronies. These are exactly like the ones used by Angel
in the series' first episode.

# "Antiques Roadshow" (1997)
- The most valuable item ever appraised at a Roadshow event was a
collection of autographs from every Presidential cabinet member from
George Washington to Franklin Roosevelt, valued at a million
dollars. Not surprisingly, the owner did not wish to appear on the
show. The most valuable item ever shown on the air was a 19th
century Navajo blanket, so rare that only about 50 remain (most in
museums), appraised at $350,000 to $500,000. The owner's first
realization of its value came when the show's producers assigned him
and his wife armed guards to protect them and the blanket while they
were taping.
- One of the show's most famous "big discoveries" was a Seymour
mahogany card table, bought at a garage sale by a New Jersey retiree
decades previous for $25. She later sold the table at Sotheby's
through one of the men who appraised her table on the air,
'Leigh Keno' (qv), for over half a million dollars.

- In the episode "Legends of the Dark Knight", the second fantasy is
based directly on two scenes from Frank Miller's "The Dark Knight
Returns", and many of the lines are adapted verbatem, including
"This isn't a mudhole; it's an operating table. And I'm the
surgeon." and "Rubber bullets. Honest."

# "Bebê a Bordo" (1988)
- This soap opera almost called "A filha da mãe" (Mother's Son).

different building (which explains the odd scenery behind
'James Eckhouse' (qv) in the re-shot pilot scenes... it matches the
Walsh house used in the remaining 10 years of the series, not the
house used only in the pilot.) Also, Brandon's car changes from a
Chevy Chevette in the pilot to a different model car in later
episodes, refered to as "Mondale". Also, 'Luke Perry' (qv) does not
appear in the series pilot, he is first featured in the 2nd episode.

_"Saved by the Bell: The College Years" (1993)_ (qv) .

- The role of Valerie Malone was given to 'Tiffani Thiessen' (qv)
after 'Alicia Silverstone' (qv) had already turned it down.
- 'Aaron Spelling' (qv) created the character of Gina Kincaid which
was made especially for 'Vanessa Marcil' (qv) to play.
3973a4011,4015
- 'Mercedes McCambridge' (qv) who played Carlotta in episode #144
"Darrin, Gone and Forgotten" was in fact born "Carlotta" Mercedes
Agnes McCambridge. So her first name was used as the character she
played in that episode during the fifth season.
4281a4324,4329
- Originally, the last episode was going to end with Blackadder,
Baldrick, Percy and Darling jumping out from the trench and then
getting shot dead instantly. They thought better of it and replaced
it with the fade-out ending that won a poll in the UK in 2004 as the
best ever farewell episode of a TV series.

# "Boys from the Blackstuff" (1982) (mini)
- This drama was seen by many as an indictment of Thatcher's Britain,
but in fact 'Alan Bleasdale' (qv) wrote four out of the five
episodes before 'Margaret Thatcher' (qv) even came to power.
4898a4953,4954
- Cancelled the morning after the fifth episode aired.
5493a5550,5553
- The CBS network and CSI producers decided to create this spin-off
series because they wanted to beat other potential CSI copycat shows

- Paul and Barry's real surnames are Elliott.
8428a8489,8499
- Although "My Blonde-Haired Brunette" (when Laura dyes her hair
blonde) was the ninth episode filmed during the first season, it was
the second episode to be aired. Carl Reiner was so impressed with
the rapid development of Mary Tyler Moore that he wanted to showcase
her in an episode as soon as possible.
- Both Dick Van Dyke and Mary Tyler Moore portrayed their roles as a
married couple so convincingly on the show that many viewers
actually thought they were married in real life. They have remained
close friends through the years.
8468c8539,8542
during the 1990-1991 season when Dwayne comes to visit Denise. In
1992, a character from the late years of The Cosby show (Charmaine

- Togemon's name comes from the Japanese word toge, meaning, "needle".
Monzaemon's name comes from Chiasmatis Monzaemon, a famous Japanese
puppet-theatrics. Numemon's name comes from the Japanese word
numenume, meaning slippery. (episode 1.06 "Togemon in Toy Town")
8536,8538c8609,8611
- DEBUT: Ikkakumon. It gets its name from the Japanese word ikkaku,
meaning both one horn and an iceberg. (episode 1.07 "Ikkakumon's
Harpoon Torpedo")
8550a8624,8653
- FINAL APPEARANCE: Devimon (episode 1.13 "The Legend of the
Digidestined")
- Besides the hot spring scene (with a slightly perverted Gomamon),
another scene edited out was when Devimon clawed Leomon in the back
& threw a Black Gear in the open wound (episode 1.08 "Evil Shows His
Face").
- DEBUT: Leomon (episode 1.08 "Evil Shows His Face").
- There was a scene cut from the Japanese version of episode 1.08
"Evil Shows His Face" because it was indecent for younger American
viewers (the Japanese culture has different views on what their
children should be allowed to see). The scene takes place while the
children are bathing in the mansion. Matt and Tai get out of the
water to get Joe, who doesn't want to come in. Then Gomamon comes
flying over the side (thanks to Palmon) and lands on Joe, knocking
him out. During this time, none of the three boys are wearing
anything, and you can see their rear ends.
- DEBUT: Ogremon (episode 1.08 "Evil Shows His Face") His name is
obviously from the word ogre, which is what ogremon looks like.
- DEBUT: Devimon (episode 1.08 "Evil Shows His Face"). Devimon gets
it's name from the word 'Devil'. Devimon does look like a devil but
as this is a children's show, they chose to foreshadow it by
dropping the 'l' in devil.
- DEBUT: Frigimon (episode 1.09 "Subzero Ice Punch!").

- 'David Marciano' (qv) opted not to return to the third season after
a contract dispute with Alliance Atlantis, the production company.
His character of Ray was replaced by Callum Keith Rennie. The
writers wrote Rennie into the story by saying the original Ray
Vecchio had gone deep undercover with the mob which was why the
appearance change of Ray took place.
- 'Catherine Bruhier' (qv) moved to Los Angeles after season 2 was
cancelled and was pursuing a career there. She only appears in a
couple of season 3 episodes until her character, Elaine, graduates
from the police academy.
- In the episode "Perfect Strangers," Dief wasn't faking the bandage
on his paw. In an interview Rick Parker, Draco's trainer, mentions
that he had the dog on the Canadian Wranglers' grounds when Draco
decided to swipe some food from a black jaguar's cage. The jaguar
didn't take kindly to this so it grabbed Draco's paw with one of its
claws. Fortunately for Draco it only required 26 stitches which all
healed nicely.
- The drunk in the wedding dress in the episode "Dead Guy Running" was
played by Paul Gross' brother-in-law, Donny Burns.
- The menu items discussed in the restaurant in "Dead Men Don't Throw
Rice" are all names of hockey players.
- The series finale, "Call of the Wild", involved a scene in which 20
Mounties parachuted from a Hercules aircraft. Two parachutists
momentarily became entangled in midair but managed to untangle
themselves and landed safely. This segment was shot over the Spray
Lakes in Kananaskis (Alberta). The Canadian Forces Skyhawks from CFB
Trenton (Ontario) were hired to perform the stunts.
- 'Ramona Milano' (qv)'s real pregnancy which was hidden in several
episodes by strategically placed file folders and furniture can be
seen in the episodes in season 4 and then going to the end of the
series.
9791a9936,9942
- The first four episodes of the show all began the same way - with
one of the doctors being awakened early in the morning from "Exam 8"
at the end of the hallway, in this order: Greene (Pilot), Lewis (Day
One), Benton (Going Home), Carter (Hit and Run). Ross (George
Clooney) was the only one of the original five who never slept in
Exam 8.
10441a10593,10600
- The Vulcan character "Tos" in the premier episode is an in-joke to
Star Trek fans, as "TOS" is the common abbreviation for The Original
Series.
- In "Broken Bow", Tucker and Maryweather are discussing a planet
inhabited by women with three breasts, a reference to "The
Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy".
10941,10943d11099
10949a11106,11112
- Stewie's email adress is: Loismustdie@yahoo.com (can be seen in
"Death is a Bitch")
- In Episode 3.32, "One if by Clam, Two if by Sea", Stewie addresses
Brian by the name, Dogbert, a direct reference to the comic strip
and animated series, "Dilbert".
10996c11159
voice over Sit Ubu, sit was producer's Gary David Goldberg's dog,
11003,11014c11166,11177
- Michael J. Fox added the P. in Alex P. Keaton as an ad-lib in his
audition, the writers loved it and kept it. Michael J. Fox almost
didn't get the role of Alex - due to the fact that NBC exec Brandon
Tartikoff didn't find it believable that Meredith Baxter Birney and
Michael Gross would have a son that was so short.
- According to Michael J. Fox's last _Spin City (1996)_ (qv) episode,
Alex P. Keaton became a Junior Congressman from Ohio.
- One year before playing Michael J. Fox's father in Back to the
Future, 'Crispin Glover' (qv) played Alex P. Keaton's friend in the
episode Birthday Boy.
11045a11209,11212
- The cast wanted to end the show with the entire Keaton family dying
in a plane crash. They absolutely didn't want to do a reunion show
in the future.
11229,11230c11396,11397

episode A Song For Europe.
11278a11446,11457
# "Feedback Report" (1990)
- The master tapes for this series were junked, and as a result no
episodes reside in the archive. The only copies possible to still
exist are those which were recorded off-air on VHS/SVHS tapes and
kept in the archives of fans - though even none of these have been
confirmed as existing.
- Before the footage was scrapped, extracts from this series were
reportedly incorporated into the 1994 BBC series
_"Day Today, The" (1994)_ (qv).
11333a11513,11514
- The first name of Jr. Commissioner Vallejo is never revealed.
11766a11948,11955
# "Fox Report with Shepard Smith" (1996)

refers to The G Block, it is the seventh and last portion of the
show. Usually, The G Block contains entertainment and light stories
usually with a comical spin to it followed by The G Block Quick
Hits.
11906a12096,12112
- Niles and Daphne's baby, born in the final episode, is named David,
after 'David Angell' (qv), one of the producers who was killed on 11
September 2001.
- The deliveryman (Cleto Augusto) who drops off Martin Crane's easy
chair in the first episode also took it away in the final episode.
- In the series finale, three of Daphne's brothers visit from England,
however, none of the actors playing them are English. They were
'Anthony LaPaglia' (qv) (Australia), 'Richard E. Grant' (qv)
(Swaziland) and 'Robbie Coltrane' (qv) (Scotland).
- As the series progresses, we learn that Frasier and Niles were named
after two lab mice their mom was using in an experiment
(psychology?) when she was pregnant with Frasier. Frasier (the
mouse) had already died when Frasier (the human) was born.
12251a12458,12460
- The role of Emily was offered to 'Patsy Kensit' (qv) but she
politely turned it down
12629a12839,12845
- In the closing credits, Phil LaMarr and Lauren Tom are listed as
"guest stars" although their characters appear in every episode.
- In episode 1, "Space Pilot 3000," Bender takes Fry to hide inside
the Head Museum saying, "It's Free on Tuesdays." 31 December 2999
will, in fact, be a Tuesday.
13340a13557,13561
- Originally, CBS rejected the show because they felt that many female
viewers would be put off by a show with a military theme. However,
when producer Danny Thomas threatened to take the show to NBC, CBS
changed their minds.

- All of 'Robin Williams (I)' (qv)'s dialogue was improvised.
15009a15239,15242

- In episode 1.02 "The Return of the Beast Part 2", we see the Leader
with hair for the last time. In subsequent episodes, he has his more
classic, bulbous head.
15883a16121,16124
- 'Matt Frewer' (qv) continues to perform the role of the Leader,
after voicing the character in a previous appearance in the Marvel
Action Hour's _"Iron Man" (1994)_(qv) animated series.

- In the writers draft version of the pilot script, the Girardi family
was called the Delaney family.
16796a17044,17050
# "Just Men!" (1983)
- Despite the show's relative obscurity and short life, hostess Betty
White won the 1983 Daytime Emmy for Best Game Show Host, the first
and only woman to ever win the honor. Despite being a perennial game
show celebrity, this was the only game show she ever hosted.
17478a17733,17734
- The show premiered on Friday 13 September 1974.
17565a17822,17825

- Series creator Steven Bochco was so taken with the show being
parodied on the cover of the October 1987 issue of Mad Magazine that
he staged a photo shoot with the show's actors in the exact same
positions that their caricatures had appeared on the magazine's
cover. Mad Magazine ran the photo in a subsequent issue.
17746a18013,18017
- The interior of the Montecito is actually that of the Mandalay Bay
in Vegas. Although the pilot episode was filmed on location, all
subsequent episodes were filmed in a painstakingly accurate set in
California.
18024,18028c18295,18299
- The following statement appears at the beginning of each and every
episode: "In the criminal justice system, the people are represented
by two separate yet equally important groups. The police who
investigate crime and the district attorneys who prosecute the
offenders. These are their stories."
18074a18346,18352
- The following statement appears at the beginning of each and every

detectives who investigate this vicious felonies are members of an
elite squad known as the special victims unit. These are their
stories."
18083a18362,18374
# "Lawman" (1958)
- In the early 1960s when TV-western mania reached its peak, an
American magazine sponsored a contest for the actors who portrayed
western heroes and villains. Since the climactic moment of so many
shows was the classic quick-draw shoot-out, the actors had to
acquire that skill to play their scenes. The magazine held a
competition among some of the stars of the shows, firing blanks,
aiming not at each other but downrange, and using an electronic
timer. Quite a number of cowboy stars showed up to slap leather.
Peter Brown beat them all and won the title of the fastest gun in
Hollywood.
19147a19439,19445
- 'Steve Buscemi' (qv) appears in an episode in the first season which
was inspired by an actual incident between himself and
'Paul Reiser' (qv). Before Buscemi began acting, he tried his hand
at doing standup. One night, he bombed so badly that another comic
had to take his place. That comic was Reiser and the episode pokes
fun at the incident.
19792a20091,20100
- The name for the local broadcasting awards on the show were the
Teddies.
- Murray was the only member of the W.J.M. news staff that never won a
Teddy. Coincidentally, 'Gavin MacLeod' (qv), who played Murray, was
the only member of the cast to never win an Emmy.

successful talk show host.

project would be that of a talking orangutan.
21193a21518,21534
- There are many in-jokes in "The Committee" (episode 8.9). The last
names of characters Edward Dunsany, Gerald Innsmouth, and Philip
Arkham all refer to works by H.P. Lovecraft. The name of Harcourt
Fenton is an obvious reference to _"Star Trek" (1966)_ (qv) rogue
Harcourt Fenton Mudd, and the names of Lieutenant Tartarus and the
Avernus Club both refer to mythological hells. This is no surprise,
given that prolific SF author 'J. Michael Straczynski' (qv) wrote
this episode.
- In "Incident in Lot 7" (episode 8.13), the novel of Jessica's being
made into a movie is called "Messengers of Midnight." Jessica says
that it's based on a true story, a car going over a cliff is
mentioned, and a particular character is named as the killer. All of
this means that the "true story" Jessica wrote into the novel was
her investigation in the episode "The Committee," another episode
written by 'J. Michael Straczynski' (qv).
22156a22498,22502
# "Now and Again" (1999)

final episode of the series, the writers ended it with an explosion

# "Perversions of Science" (1997)

quit the show with ten episodes left to film.
25811,25815c26200,26205

allowed viewers to choose how it would end: Jimmy leaving town to
pursue the dream job he had been offered; staying to go after his
old flame Christien; or staying to go after Jolande. The viewers
chose the Chris ending but somehow the show didn't end after this
and is still being broadcast.

of the other final season episodes to sidestep continuity problems
(though the disappearance and later reappearance of Kelly and Jessie
- and vise versa for Tori- went unexplained).

- The tagline "Dogma Comedy" is taken from Lars von Trier's "Dogma"
manifesto, as the series is a kind of staged docu-soap, shot with

- In the early series pilot, shot in March 1976, there were vast
differences and similarities to the actual show that ran for eight
years:
- 'Norman Fell'(qv) and 'Audra Lindley'(qv) played 'The Ropers' in
the pilot, but were only known as 'George' and 'Mrs. Roper." As in
the UK original, 'Mrs. Roper' was more serious and not zany as in
the main series.
- The pilot took place in a triplexed apartment area in North
Hollywood, called the "Hacienda Palms", where the main series was
an apartment house in Santa Monica.
- 'John Ritter' (qv)'s character in the pilot was 'David Bell.'
- The two women roommates in the pilot were played by
'Valerie Curtain' (qv) and 'Suzanne Zenor' (qv) - who didn't make
it into the show's eight-year run.
- The "Come and knock on our door..." theme song originated from the
pilot, but there were no lyrics.
- The sets used in the pilot mirrored the main series with the
exception of the living room used by the three roommates.
31739a32263,32284
- In the first few seasons, where the opening and closing credits were
shot on the beach, it was done as a last-minute aspect by the
producers at Venice Beach. The first shot where the camera zooms in
on 'Jack Tripper' riding his bike was obtained by going on the roof
of a Venice shop-owner who took $100 for use of his roof.
- The exterior shots of the Roper's apartment was an actual corner
apartment-house in Santa Monica. Permission was obtained by the
owners for filming rights.
- 'Audra Lindley' (qv) and 'Norman Fell' (qv) left the show after the
second season for a spin-off of their characters. They were promised
by the ABC network that if their show didn't make it past it's first
season - their spots were secure for a permanent return on the
series. Their spin-off failed after a season and a half, and were
permanently replaced by 'Don Knotts' (qv).

- When the show premiered on CBS at the beginning of the 1972-73
season, most media pundits felt it didn't have a chance, airing as
it did opposite two proven ratings powerhouses.
_"Flip Wilson Show, The" (1970)_ (qv) on NBC, had been the number
one show in America for the previous two seasons, and ABC's
_"Mod Squad, The" (1968)_ (qv) was a long-standing favorite, as
well. "The Waltons" out-performed both shows in the ratings by a
wide margin. "Mod Squad" was cancelled by the end of the season, and
Flip Wilson, rather than have the same thing happen to his show,
announced that the 1973-74 season would be his last. All this
happened just a year after CBS felt that rural shows were "out," and
set out to prove it, in a highly controversial move, by canceling
several long-running series, such as
_"Beverly Hillbillies, The" (1962)_ (qv) and
_"Green Acres" (1965)_ (qv) which were still doing well in the
ratings.

very appropriate.

- 'Jack Cardiff' (qv) came up with the idea of starting the rainfall
end scene by first having a few drops hit the rhubarb leaves before
cueing a full-force rainstorm. He personally created the first drops
with water from a cup when the scene was shot.
'Michael Powell (I)' (qv) was so pleased with the effect that he
decided to make the scene, originally the penultimate one, the
closing shot. Cardiff, however, was a great fan of the original
scene (which had already been shot) that was supposed to follow this
one and close the film. To this day Cardiff amusingly calls the
opening drops of the rainfall "the worst idea I ever had".
- The backdrops were blown-up black and white photographs. The art
department then gave them their breathtaking colors by using pastel
chalks on top of them.

to film "Casino Royale" properly - pretty much as 'Ian Fleming' (qv)
wrote it. He backed 'Pierce Brosnan' (qv) for Bond and
'Uma Thurman' (qv) as Bond Girl (presumably the tragic Vesper Lynd).
He has apparently approached Eon Productions, which remains,
according to Brosnan, unsure whether to go for a more Flemingesque
production, thus risking lower returns (cf.
_For Your Eyes Only (1981)_ (qv) following _Moonraker (1979)_ (qv)),

65710a66589,66635
- When Nino Baragli and Bob Guccione cut the film together, several
scenes were truncated and cut into the film in a seemingly random
order. A few examples of scenes made fragmented in editing:
- The opening is a fragment of a scene that was meant to occur
immediately following Tiberius's death (this is why Caligula is
clean shaven in this scene, but has a beard in the next). It was
supposed to depict Caligula and Drusilla enjoying their new
freedom as they no longer need to worry about being seen by
Tiberius's informers. The scene is almost certainly shorter than
it was intended to be, and thus is now a meaningless fragment.
- The scene that was meant to be the opening is cut in half and
moved around. In the final cut, the first half of this scene
(which depicts Caligula worrying to Drusilla about Tiberius
killing him) occurs between Caligula's tour of the grotto and
Nerva's suicide. The second half of the scene (where Caligula and
Drusilla fool around and are caught by Macro) now immediately
follows the opening credits.
- When Caligula and Nerva walk down the path to Tiberius's pool, we
can hear people being tortured behind a curtain, which Caligula
looks through at one point. The fragments of people being tortured
several scenes later were meant to be intercut with the scene of
Caligula and Nerva in the hall. Also, several scenes later, we see
bodies being taken off crosses and servants clearing the pathway.
These were meant to act as establishing shots for the scene in the
hall.
- Mixed in the scene on Tiberius's pleasure grotto are shots of an
orgy, some of which filmed through mirrors. It's unclear what the
purpose of these shots were, but they were obviously not meant for
this scene (as they take place in a different room, and, thus, are
cutaways to a location across the palace).
- In the scene where Caligula, Caesonia, and Drusilla have sex, the
movie includes inserts of a lesbian tryst that was one of the
extra scenes shot by Bob Guccione. This footage replaces shots
that made this scene necessary for the plot (the original concept
had the palace informers looking through the peephole, thus
explaining the closeups of the moon face in the bedroom), as well
as a different lesbian act featuring the ladies-in-waiting, shot
by Tinto Brass.
- The shot of Caligula being scared by a black bird while playing
with a rat was originally part of a much longer scene in which he
sets up many small chariots for a race to entertain his daughter,
and, thus, was also meant to be included somewhere in between the
I am God scene and the imperial bordello scene (along with several
other cut scenes (such as the sacrificial scene and the scene
where Caligula claims himself to be king of the gods) and
relocated scenes (such as Proculus's death)).

perfection in his life. He reveals that he poisoned everyone with a
slow-acting toxin in their drinks. It ended with Wadsworth being
killed by dogs as he attempted to escape by car from the house. The
rather grim nature of the ending is probably why it was never
released - it only survives in the novelization and the storybook,
which features but a single photo from that ending (the Chief
punching Wadsworth in the stomach).

- The movie was heavily edited for theatrical release after test
screenings. The two major changes are the ending, which was
originally a bit less bleak but still disappointed test audiences,
and an entire subplot involving 'Tracey Ullman' (qv) as a bartender
who befriends the Bruce Willis character. Also, many scenes were
shortened, including a lengthy sequence the day after Meryl Streep's
character is released from the hospital with a broken neck. Also,
character scenes by supporting players such as Jonathan Silverman as
Meryl Streep's agent were cut to the point of becoming cameos, and a
couple of scenes with Isabella Rosselini's character were also
shortened. The reason for most of the changes was due to Zemeckis'
desire to liven the pace, as well as cutting extraneous jokes that
didn't further the plot or character. The reason for the deletion of
the entire Tracey Ullman subplot had to do with the removal of the
original ending. In it, Meryl Streep and Goldie Hawn are outfoxed by
Bruce Willis and Ullman, who escape with the potion. Flash forward
27 years, and Streep and Hawn bump into a now-happily retired
couple, Ullman and Willis. Though Streep and Hawn remain beautiful,
they lack the love and life that Willis and Ullman created without
the use of any magical youth potions. Hence the moral of the story
was the same, but apparently, Zemeckis and the test audiences didn't
feel the payoff was rewarding enough. When it was changed to the
current ending (where the Streep and Hawn literally fall to pieces),
the entire Ullman subplot seemed extraneous, so was cut. In all,
quite a few minutes of deletions were made, and this test audience
version was never released theatrically or on home video.

the reception desk at Dr Mierzwiak's practice shows it as Svevo.
This very unusual name is clearly a reference to Italian writer

interested in the work of Sigmund Freud and is believed to have
corresponded with him.

sequence without the cow.
- There were supposed to be more scenes filmed on Odo Island. One was

# Golden Earrings (1947)
- Due to a industrial dispute, the principale actors had to "live" on
the set for a few weeks to avoid crossing picket lines. Dietrich
took the time to learn how to play the zither, it was said she drove
the rest of the cast and crew mad with her attempts to perfect her
technique. But her efforts were rewarded as illustrated in the scene
in the movie where she plays the zither very competently.
- In the scene with Lydia and the stew pot, dry ice was used to give
the impression of vapors and heat. But a small fire was lit under it
and when filming resumed between takes Dietrich assumed there was no
real heat and suffered third degree burns to her hand. She refused
to hold up production and instead kept dipping her hand in the pot
that had been refilled with ice water.
- In the climax where Lydia is escaping though the wilderness from the
Nazis, in some shots she is seen wearing high heels and at other
times appears in bare feet. This was because Dietrich refused to
wear high heeled shoes inspire of the fact that shots had already
been filmed with her stunt double wearing heeled shoes

- As with its parent game, Grand Theft Auto 3, the Paramedic missions
are considered by many to be one of the most frustrating scenerios
in computer gaming. The combination of a top-heavy ambulance, an
extremely tight time frame, and a need to repeat a task more than 30
times in a row makes the mission extremely tedious and difficult.
- When released on the computer, many people complained about the
difficulty of a mission involving a remote-controlled toy
helicopter. The player is supposed to pilot the aforementioned toy
into a building with explosives. Many keyboards could not handle as
many simultaneous button presses as the controls required the player
to press, causing them to crash the helicopter. Many game-modifying
programs ("Trainers") were designed exclusively to make the mission
easier to complete.
- On one of the talk-show stations in the game (VCPR), a "motivational

are the Proud Naked Man and the British masochist Freddy.

any back problems.
- A competition was held in 1923 through Universal through various
Photoplay music (stock silent music) companies to come up with a
theme song for the film. The winner was Maurice Baron, whose

'Michael Powell (I)' (qv) decided on the spot that the effect would

equation ((ln(1-x) - sin(x)) / (1 - cos^2(x)) Using L'Hopital's rule
and direct substitution you get -2/0. Any number divided by 0 is
undefined. You then have to look at the graph of the equation which
finally lets you conclude that the limit does not exist as the graph
approaches both positive and negative infinity at x=0. Cady figures
all this out in about 15 seconds.

- When Alex ('Freddie Boath' (qv)) is reading from the Book of the
Dead, he has trouble translating a hieroglyph of a stork. His Uncle
Jonathan ('John Hannah' (qv)) reminds Alex what the symbol means. In
_Mummy, The (1999)_ (qv), Jonathan needed help from Evie translating
the same symbol. The dialogue is almost exactly the same as the
first film, and in both movies, the person helping the translator

- The 1994 restoration by Robert A. Harris used a variety of methods
to return the film to its original condition. The opening credits
were digitally re-created using pieces of surviving frames. A few
shots were digitally restored by scanning the 65mm negative or
separation masters and output back to VistaVision (and enlarged back
to 65mm). Some shots were simply re-composited via separation
masters. Despite this, most of the film was able to be restored
directly from the camera negative. For the sound, only the 6-track
magnetic print master (used to add sound to 70mm prints) survived.
This was digitally restored and used to create a new 6-track mix
(faithful to the original version), as well as new Dolby Digital and
DTS 5.1 mixes for modern sound systems.

- The PCA at first refused to issue an approved certificate for the
film because 'Eddie Rio' (qv)'s pantomime of a lady taking a bath
was considered vulgar. They eventually relented.

# Odor of the Day (1948)
- This is another of those cartoons in which the identity of the main
character is open to debate. The skunk in this picture does resemble
Pepe le Pew, but does not exhibit any of his mannerisms or his voice
in his one line of dialogue. At best, Warner Bros. seems to classify
it as an "unofficial" Pepe cartoon by including it on a Pepe home
video collection. But ultimately, the identity of the character is a
matter of opinion.

- Sergio Leone printed 10 hours of film to assemble as the initial cut
of the movie, which he pared down to a six-hour cut that he was
satisfied with. For a time, he strongly considered releasing the
movie in two three-hour parts before cutting it down to its
four-hour version.
- Even at four hours long, the full cut of this film leaves about 45
minutes that Leone considered "essential" on the cutting room floor,
including further explanation of the mob/labor relationship, DeNiro
meeting Tuesday Weld's character in the 1968 sequences, and a good
deal of footage featuring Darlanne Fluegel, who played DeNiro's
girlfriend, "Eve".
- When DeNiro takes Elizabeth McGovern out to dinner, the elaborate
hotel was filmed in Venice, while the fateful ride home was filmed
an ocean away at the New Jersey Shore.
- The actor at the end who walks up to the garbage truck was not James
Woods, but an actor made up to look like James Woods.

- The various vehicles in the movie are live-action models painted
white with black lines. Each frame of the live-action footage was
Xeroxed onto cels and painted the same as the hand-drawn characters.
This would become standard procedure at Disney and other studios
until the mid-1980s, when computer animated models first came into
use.
- Art director Ken Anderson came up with the idea of overlaying cels
of line drawings over the painted backgrounds to match the Xeroxed
cels of the characters. For the next twenty years, all Disney
features - with the exception of _Jungle Book, The (1967)_ (qv) and
the animated segments in _Mary Poppins (1964)_ (qv) and
_Bedknobs and Broomsticks (1971)_ (qv) - would use this technique
for their backgrounds. With _Fox and the Hound, The (1981)_ (qv),
Disney returned to fully painted backgrounds, with a brief reprise
of the cel overlay for _Oliver and Company (1988)_ (qv).

Principal photography on Poltergeist ended in August of 1981, then
Spielberg took a few weeks off and began work on E.T. Spielberg also
supervised the visual effects for both films simultaneously (which
were produced at Industrial Light & Magic under the supervision of
Richard Edlund and Dennis Muren). Once post production work on
Poltergeist began in early 1982, Spielberg was in total control. He
was responsible for the editing of the film (Spielberg's usual
editor Michael Khan edited this film while Carol Littleton edited
E.T), the final sound mixes and loops, the supervision of the visual
effects, and the selection of Jerry Goldsmith as the composer of the
score. Poltergeist and E.T opened to theatres nationwide only a week

may be a in-joke (possibly a jab at diehard fans wanting to see an
"accurate" portrayal of their "hero") in that the film has nothing
at all in common with the actual Punisher character's origins (as
documented in the mini-series or the two decades of comics since his

never noticed anything. He was merely seeing the events, not
watching them. Therefore, he never realized how evil Richard
actually is.
- Mckellen made Queen Elizabeth an American because this way, her
family and herself could be seen as social-climbers, from commoners

portion of the film. In it, Shinji dreams of a world that exists
without him. The sequence follows live-action versions of Asuka,
Misato, and Rei in various stages of their daily lives, without

an "invisible" Shinji, who realizes in monologue that this is not
reality. As the transition from live-action back to animation is
made, Rei and Shinji discuss the nature of dreams vs. reality, as
seen in the final cut of the film. Portions of this alternate
sequence can be seen in the original theatrical trailer, which is
shown on the R1 DVD before the movie plays.

defunct series, _"Exit 57" (1995)_ (qv). After seeing this film,
though, Comedy Central contacted Sedaris, Rouse, Colbert, and
Dinello and asked them to return to work for them, along with the
cast they'd assembled.
- The only cast members who would not reprise their role for the
eventual TV series was James Murtaugh, since Jerri's hospital job
was written out. Sarah Thyre would return to the series, but as Mrs.
Wolf the gym coach, instead of Mrs. Blank.
- Most everything in the movie was later recycles for various episodes
of the television series. Including: Kimberly's paper about Japanese
internment, Jerri's essay about being stoned and needing a
laminectomy, Jerri getting her uterus scraped, the teachers bathing
together, the faculty wanting Jerri turning in a retarded person,
Wilford Brimley's book on tape, Shelly the ill fated turtle, and
Mrs. Blank's fondue.
- Stephen Colbert and Paul Dinello came up with the idea for the movie
after they both saw a an after-school special/documentary entitled
"The Trip Back", which featured inspirational speaker Florrie
Fisher, chain smoking at a podium while screaming at high school
students about her troubles with drugs and prostitution. Dinello and
Colbert showed a tape of the documentary to Amy Sedaris, telling her
that they wanted to make a short parodying an after-school special.
Sedaris modeled the voice, mannerisms, and appearance on Fisher, and
many of Jerri's lines throughout the series were taken verbatim from
Fischer's speeches.

# Those Awful Hats (1909)
- The film utilized the Dunning-Pomeroy Matte process (an early
predecessor to blue-screening). When this film was originally being
restored, the elements for the film that is projected in the picture
were lost. As an inside joke, the restorers filled it in with a
scene from _At the Crossroads of Life (1908)_ (qv), a picture that
D.W. Griffith himself starred in.
217757,217761c220395,220410
- 'McClory, Kevin' (qv), 'Fleming, Ian(I)' (qv), and
'Whittingham, Jack' (qv) collaborated on an original story and
screenplay for what would have been the very first 007 film,
entitled "James Bond, Secret Agent". McClory reportedly wanted
'Burton, Richard (I)' (qv) to play James Bond. For whatever reasons,
the movie was never made. Fleming had previously cannibalized plots
prepared for two other abandoned Bond spin-off projects, a newspaper
comic strip and a television series, for 007 novels, and similarly
turned this one into his novel "Thunderball". However, in this case
his right to do so was not so clear. When 'Broccoli, Albert R.' (qv)
bought film rights to the Bond novels from Fleming, McClory
initiated legal action. Although this production is a fairly
faithful adaptation of the published novel, McClory's suit resulted
in only the earlier screenplay being credited as source material.
McClory's producer credit is probably just another term of the
settlement.

# Toast of New York, The (1937)
- 'Alexander Hall (I)' (qv) was the original director, but fell ill
with pleurisy and was replaced by Rowland V. Lee after two-thirds of
the film was shot. The length of principal photography suggests that
Lee reshot or expanded most of Hall's material, resulting in many
cast changes. It is not known how much of Hall's footage remains in
the film.
- Many of the original cast in studio records and casting call lists
were not seen in the film. These include (with their character
names): 'George Lollier' (qv) (Reporter), 'Frank Marlowe' (qv)
(Reporter), 'Otto Fries' (qv) (Reporter), 'Jack Carson (I)' (qv)

(Member of the Board of Directors) and 'William Worthington' (qv)
(Judge). 'Henry Kolker' (qv) was listed in the cast by a news item,
but he also was not seen in the film.
- The film lost $530,000 at the box office, RKO's biggest failure in
1937.
- Unlike the events in the film, Jim Fisk was shot and killed in a
fight over a woman. Josie Mansfield was only one of his romantic
interests.

Amália Rodrigues, the queen of Fado music.
- A caricatured 'Django Reinhardt' (qv) playing guitar can be seen
early in the black and white portion of the film. The film's
soundtrack sounds as though it was greatly influenced by Django's
music (and he recorded a song called Belleville with
'Stéphane Grappelli' (qv)).
- The music heard on the soundtrack as Mme. Souza and Bruno follow the

- The character Boagrius does not exist in Greek Mythology nor in any
collected editions of Homer's Iliad. Boagrius was a river.
- Wolfgang Petersen dropped the various Greek Gods from the storyline
(Zeus, etc) claiming them to be silly and unnecessary to the plot.
- After it was announced that a big production would take place on the
history of Troy, the Turkish government and Ministry of Culture and
Tourism had contacted with the production suggesting the filming
should be done in Canakkale, Turkey, where the real Troy was. The
filmmakers didn't agree. The Turkish government even offered
sponsorship if the premiere was to be made on the ancient set of
Troy but the premiere took place in Berlin, where most of the
historical remains were displayed after being taken from Anatolia.
- One of the hurricanes that tore through the set during filming was
during the night and it wiped out Brad Pitt's house. Pitt did wake
up at about 4 in the morning but since he was so tired from the
night before, he slept through the hurricane.
- Changes were made to keep the plot simple. According to the Illiad
(that inspired the movie), Paris was killed during the war. Helen
then married Paris' brother, Deiphobus, who was also killed. After
the Greeks captured Troy, Helen and Menelaus were reunited.
- Historians are sharply divided on the question of whether or not the
Trojan War actually occurred - and if it did, which archaeological
site is actually Troy. Discoveries made at the beginning of the 21st
century provide new evidence of several armed battles in the right
area at the right time - but definitive proof is hard to find, due
largely to the historical practice of constructing one city on the
ruins of another. Homer's Illiad (and other similar epics depicting
the Trojan War) were written hundreds of years after the Trojan War
supposedly occurred, and are of little use in determining factual
historical events as they included many mythological elements: gods
such as Apollo, Zeus, and Hera were central characters in the story
who drastically affected the course of the war by killing and/or
saving individual people during the conflict. The producers'
decision to eliminate all mythological elements from the story gives
their film an air of historical authenticity not present in the
original works.
- In the original story, Helen returns to Sparta with Menelaus after
the fall of Troy. In the film, Menelaus is slain by Hector, while
Helen escapes Troy with Andromache, Aeneas, and the other Trojan
refugees.
- Two biologist were employed to protect the eggs of turtles on the
beaches of Mexico where filming took place.
- Wolfgang Petersen originally didn't want Helen to appear in the
movie. He felt that an acress couldn't live up to the audience's
expectations, but the producers insisted she appear. Petersen went
with an unknown actress for the same reason.

films is the use of the Werewolf Poem which was created for the
original _Wolf Man, The (1941)_ (qv) and quoted in every subsequent
Universal film featuring that creature. The character of Igor is
also clearly based upon Ygor from _Son of Frankenstein (1939)_ (qv)

personality traits of Fritz from the original
_Frankenstein (1931)_ (qv) and Renfield from the original
